M+, Hong Kongs new museum at the West Kowloon Cultural District, presents M+ Matters—a series of FREE public talks exploring critical issues with key players in the fields of visual art, design, architecture and the moving image. M+ Matters—Import/Export: Postwar Design and Industry in East Asia The symposium will place mass-produced objects at the centre of East Asia’s post-WWII economic and industrial narrative—mapping and tracing the key phenomena, products, manufacturers and design influences that moved throughout the region. Issues such as imitation, copying and appropriation; the transference, adaptation and invention of typologies and design vocabularies; the role of new technologies and production processes; and the absorption of these objects into their respective visual cultures will also be discussed.
