M for Mayflower..Infact many flowers are called May flowers by virtue of their blooming time...Ill reserve the others for the next rounds//:) I have seen this in Kerala, but not in any other part of the country I have visited. This lily with its peculiar round shape is also known as fireball lily, powder puff or globe lily. A native of Africa, this plant grows well in all tropical places. It comes in pink and red shades. There is another in white colour known as Haemanthus virasense. The blooms are big with red/ pink spikes and yellow specks at the ends and lasts for about a week. The leaves are smooth and dark green in colour and fresh ones appear after flowering. The plant grows to a height of 12-18 inches and blooms only once a year. The Mayflower was also the name of the ship that transported mostly English Puritans and Separatists, collectively known today as the Pilgrims, from Plymouth England to the New World, culminating in the Mayflower Compact ,an event which established a rudimentary form of democracy, with each member contributing to the welfare of the community. This voyage has become an iconic story in some of the earliest annals of American history, with its story of death and of survival in the harsh New World winter environment. Thanksgiving is disputedly associated with this journey too..
