M13 MARY ELIZABETH BEYER ISCH daughter of Martin and Elizabeth Schiffer Beyer was born September 15 1879 at Diamond Missouri She came to Kansas with her parents and lived with them near Gridley Kansas until her marriage to Samuel Isch on January 14 1900 He was born November 21 1876 at Eureka Illinois They moved to a farm near Gridley and have spent their entire married life on this farm Samuel passed away at St Marys Hospital in Emporia Kansas September 27 1943 Mary passed away May 2 1957 at Newman Hospital in Emporia Twelve Children: M13-1 George Isch born August 5 1901 Died October 11 1911 M13-2 Emma Isch born February 5 1903. Died April 12 1985 Married Sam Enz February 22 1948 He was born December 6 1898. Died May 3 1971 Emma was born at home near Gridley, February 5 1903. She did housework for various families in the area. She went to work for Sam Winzeller in 1928. In 1942 Emma went to work at Emporia Tent and Awning. There she was employed at making army tents and cots. As well she worked for a Wood Crafter making home interior decorations. She then went to work as a cook at Kansas State Teachers College, EMPORIA STATE. Emma went back to doing domestic work for the Limbocker family in Emporia. At this point in her life she met and married Sam Enz. Sam and Emma farmed south of Lamont Kansas. Sam also operated his own bulldozer maintaining township roads. Following Sams death Emma moved to Madison. Emma died as a result of a brain tumour at the Madison Manor Home in 1983 M13-3 Frank Isch born November 18 1904. Died January 28 1990 Married Irene Herrmann June 4 1936 She was born April 13 1913 Frank was born at home near Gridley November 18 1904. In 1931 at the age of 27 Frank moved to Sabetha Kansas where he worked on a farm for his uncle Sam Beyer. In 1934 he went to work for Noah Edelman at the grain elevator in Berwick Kansas. It was during this period that Frank and Irene were married. She was the daughter of Albert and Lydia Harter Herrmann. In July of 1944 Frank bought the Hamlin Elevator in Hamlin. Frank and Irene moved to Morrill Kansas and in December of 1944, he bought the Morrill Elevator. In 1946 Frank and his brother Elmer formed a partnership and became permanently involved in the grain and feed business. Frank retired in 1970 and in 1981 Frank and Irene sold their house and moved to Sabetha Kansas. Frank entered the Apostolic Christian Home for the aged in June of 1987, following surgery to remove a brain tumour. Died July 27 1963 Clara was born at home near Gridley Kansas April 26 1910. Upon completion of the eighth grade she helped on the farm as well as doing domestic work for families in the Gridley/Lamont area. In 1930 she went to Emporia to do domestic work in the home of a banker, MA Limbocker, until her marriage in 1935. Clara and Arnold farmed near Olpe for two years, then moved to southwest of Burlington for two more years. In 1939 they moved to southwest of Gridley where they farmed until 1950. At that point they moved to Yates Centre. Arnold did some work in the oil fields as well as farming. Clara became more actively involved in the farm operation. After Arnolds death, Clara sold the farm and moved to Iola. In 1933 she went to Emporia to work for the LT Banks family, owners of Banks Clothing Store. In 1935 she went to work for the MA Limbocker family. During World War Two she worked at the Emporia Tent and Awning Co; she also worked as a presser for Baird Cleaners. After their marriage Edna and Theodore farmed in the Gridley area. Theodore also worked for the Liberty Township Roads Dept. In 1979 Theodores health caused them to sell the farm and move into Gridley. M13-8 Irene Mildred Isch born October 1 1914. Died January 22 1982 Married Harold J Birk February 24 1937 He was born August 9 1913. Died February 26 1981 Irene was born at home near Gridley October 1 1914. Before she was married, she worked as a housekeeper for the Schaefer family in Burlington and for the Finney family in Emporia. After their marriage Irene and Harold farmed for a while near Gridley and then moved southwest of Burlington. In 1946 their house was destroyed by fire. They spent the winter in a four roomed house nearby. In the spring they rebuilt on the same spot their original house was. In 1947 they moved east of Burlington and Harold farmed for Ray Danner. In September of 1948 they moved to Emporia and Harold worked for Bob Bird feeding cattle In 1952 he went to work for the Anderson Cattle Co as a feeder. Harold and Irene bought a new house in 1966. Harold went to work for the Armor Packing Co which is now known as Iowa Meat Packers. A heart attack forced harold to retire in 1973. When he became old enough he worked for many different neighbouring farmers. In 1939 Ervin moved to Berwick and worked for his brother Frank and also Noha Edelman. In 1940 he moved back to Gridley to live and work with his father. After their marriage Irvin and Marjorie moved to a farm one mile north of his fathers place. There they lived for five years. In January 1946 they moved just over the line into Lyon County. Irvin farmed this place for thirteen years. In February 1959 he bought a farm one quarter mile south of where they were living. This farm was located in Greenwood County. It was on this place that Irvin built a Grade A dairy, which he operated along with his farm. His health forced him to retire in 1978. She was born July 31, 1916. Died November 1967. Four children: Floyd remarried to Mary Louise Knapp Beyer October 6 1968 She was born February 4 1925. Floyd was born at Gridley Ks. and went to a country school through grade eight. He graduated in 1932 and stayed at home until he was almost 21. In 1938 he went to work for his Uncle Sam Beyer at Sabetha for one year. Floyd returned to Gridley and went to work for R.R.A. to help build the first electric line out of Burlington. In 1941 he began farming and in 1942 went into Partnership with his dad. After the death of his father in 1943 Floyd took over the farm. He bought 200 acres of the farm where he was born and started a dairy. In 1957 he bought 320 acres of pasture from his mother. In 1969 Floyd built the dairy complex west of the home place. At that time he was milking 350 cows. In 1980 Floyed and Mary built a new home in Gridley: and as Floyd Says, we lived there happy ever after All of Floyds children were born to Julia. In 1940 he went to work at the Edelman Grain Co. at Berwick for his brother Frank, who was managing the elevator. In 1946 Elmer and Eldora moved to Morrill to join Frank in a partnership in the Morrill and Hamlin Elevators. Elmer managed the Hamlin elevator until it was sold to in 1970. Franks son Jon bought his fathers interest in the Morrill Elevator and with Elmer Operated it a Partnership until it was sold in 1983. At that point in time he retired. She attended two years of high school at Lamont. After high school Dorothy worked for the Kendigs at Emporia until her marriage to Edward Raymond. Edward and Dorothy move to a farm two miles west of Burlington for a year and then they moved to a farm six miles southeast of Burlington. In 1944 they moved to a farm five miles southwest of Burlington. They Built a new home and moved into it in 1978. Jeannette is secretary at Hiawatha High School, also secretary the Ladies Missionary Society and trustee for the church. Steve is a Sergeant with the Kansas Highway Patrol.
