M13 (NGC 6205), the Hercules Globular Cluster. Visible as a fuzzy 4th magnitude star in the sky at a dark site, even in the city the SN-8 resolves it into a magnificent swarm of stars. This image shows the cluster at a magnification of 29x (FOV 1.7 x 1.1 degrees). The cluster is about 10 of arc (1/3 the diameter of the full Moon) and lies 25,000 light years away. Image taken with a Pentax istD DSLR at the Newtonian focus of a Meade SN8 8 f/4 Schmidt-Newtonian reflector. The f/4 main mirror and Schmidt corrector plate provide pin-sharp star images edge-to-edge in the 1.5x form factor DSLR FOV.
