MA Program at USF: Deadline: Feb. 15th, 2015. An opportunity to apply to the Masters degree program in Womens and Gender Studies at the University of South Florida. The Department of Womens and Gender Studies is a free-standing department at USF, and we currently have seven outstanding full-time faculty members, plus around 60 faculty affiliates from around the university. Our program aims to prepare students both for continued academic study and for positions outside the academy; we have a very strong record of placing our graduates in both Ph.D. programs and in numerous social-justice-oriented non-profits. In fact, in the last Florida Education and Training Placement report, 100% of our grads were either employed full time or in Ph.D. programs. Our students may choose to write a thesis, do a graduate internship, or do an all-coursework degree. USF also offers students a great deal of flexibility in earning graduate certificates to complement their work in WGS, in a wide variety of areas, such as Women and Health, Africana Studies, Nonprofit Management, or Genocide and Human Rights. Our MA students are eligible for graduate assistantships that offer a stipend and in-state tuition at an 80% discounted rate (currently this means graduate tuition is only slightly more than $1500/year). Students get experience teaching both face-to-face classes and online classes, and get the chance to develop their teaching portfolios by working with several different faculty members in multiple courses. USF and its more than 41,000 students are located in Tampa, a diverse metro area with a thriving arts scene, world-class festivals, rich cultural history and attractions. We are a short drive from amazing beaches and famous amusement parks. Further, the large metropolitan area (with a population over 4,000,000) offers a range of employment opportunities for partners of graduate students. And while it is hot during the summer, most of the school year offers near-perfect weather, with average high and low temperatures of 70/52 in January. Our application deadline for Fall 2015 is February 15.
