MAC McANALLY - DARK AGES: One of my songwriting heroes is a fellow named Mac McAnally. Way back in 1999 (I think), my pal Tammy Brown arranged a visit in Nash Vegas with Mac where we sat down in a couple dining chairs and passed a guitar back and forth for a few rounds ... then he took me to lunch. One Bucket List Item Accomplished! Every Mac album is like going to songwriting school. This track (Dark Ages) is from Nothing But the Truth (1983). A wonderful array of Muscle Shoals musicians on board here ... and I posit with all due respect and amazement ... guys who _might_ have been listening to a Steely Dan record or two in that golden era. Its certainly Mac all the way, but haunted by the ghost of a great Steve Gadd drum track and Aja-era keyboards. To me, still powerful after all these years. (Note: No offense intended in my connect-the-musical-dots speculation. I might be wrong.)
