MADINAH — Visitors flocked to Madinah following the Royal Decree that announced a three-day weekend — Thursday, Friday and Saturday — to set right new working days. Some visitors expressed their joy and visited the holy city to rejuvenate in its spiritual atmosphere — especially that Ramadan is just around the corner. Majed Al-Mehaimeed said that he was planning to visit Madinah for long, and this long unprecedented weekend provided him with the perfect opportunity. Al-Mehaimeed, who hails from Qasim, visited the Prophet’s Mosque and all other the historical locations with his family. He also said that the roads were flooded with cars that were on en route to Madinah. Naser Al-Etaibi came from Riyadh to visit his relatives in Madinah, taking the advantage of the long weekend. He said if it were not for the long weekend then it would have been impossible for him to visit Madinah. Other visitors said that before the change of the weekend, visitors from Jeddah had to return to back home on Friday, but now they can spend the whole day in Madinah before returning to Jeddah. King Abduaziz International Airport in Madinah has witnessed a great influx of passengers since Wednesday, and so have the roads to the holy city. The long weekend came in as a good news for the hotel owners as well; the occupancy rates reportedly went up by 70 percent even before Ramadan commenced. Deputy Madinah Police head Brig. Hamad Al-Harbi said that the traffic police were keen on facilitating the traffic, especially to Madinah’s central area, where hotels and furnished apartments are located.
