MADISON SET FOR SHELBOURNE RETURN 04/07/2013 Paradise Madison, the almost forgotten dog of the Irish scene, is set to return to action three and a half months after his last appearance. The magnificent Shelbourne and National 525 yards record holder has been laid up with a very serious injury but he will be given his first trial back at Shelbourne Park on Saturday. His trainer Ollie Bray reported today that “At last he is ready for a trial. He picked up a hairline fracture of the hock in the first round of the Easter Cup and it has been touch and go with him. But we have got plenty of swimming, walking and galloping into him as well as a private school but this will be his first 525. “He is ready for a trial and it will be a question of whether we can get him back to his previous level of performance. He is coming along the right way but plans depend on how he performs and reacts to the trial. If everything goes right then he should be able to run in the Champion Stakes and also the Irish Derby”. Paradise Madison, a son of Head Bound and Paradise Alanna, is trained by Bray for Dave Buckley and he burst on the Shelbourne scene last October when winning in 28.31. He then set a magnificent new track record of 27.92 on November 17th when becoming the first greyhound ever to break 28secs at Shelbourne. A week later he came back to clock 27.96 and then in the semi-final of the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake on December 8th he drew gasps from the terraces as he flew around the circuit in a scarcely believable 27.67. He was knocked over on the third bend in the final, was off the track for over three months and then sustained his serious injury in his 2013 comeback race. It will be tremendous to have him back and there should be a mighty crowd on the Shelbourne steps when he walks out for his pre-racing trial. Despite being laid low for so long, Paradise Madison is being treated very tenderly by the firms who quote him at a best price of 20-1, though generally on offer at 16-1, for the ETS Irish Derby.
