MAGGIE SUE’S DOGMATIC THEOLOGY (1/4) We’re still into the Season of Christmas, which is one of the coolest seasons of the whole year. Today we’re celebrating the Feast of Epiphany. Some think that this feast only celebrates the coming of the 3 Kings. But there’s really much more. Let me tell you: The Greek word Epiphany (επιφάνεια), means appearance or manifestation. First, the angels revealed Jesus to the shepherds. In the Western Church, the Feast of the Epiphany celebrates Jesus’ first appearance to the Gentiles, represented by the Magi, while in the Eastern Church, the feast is the commemoration of the baptism of Christ, where the Father and the Holy Spirit gave combined testimony to Jesus’ identity as Son of God. Later, in the synagogue at Nazareth, Jesus revealed himself as the promised Messiah, and at Cana he revealed his divinity by transforming water into wine. These multiple revelations are all suggested by the Feast of the Epiphany. Now you know more about your faith and the church year! Keep reading my columns and I’ll keep trying to share more of my Sheltie knowledge and to let you know more and more about the awesominity of our cool faith. I’m starting to get the squirrels to think Catholic, I think! Send your theological questions to maggiesueadam@gmail
