MAGGIE SUE’S DOGMATIC THEOLOGY (5/4) You all should see me now! My Dad just brought me home from the “spa” where I had a fine bath, grooming, nails trimmed and my am I looking spiffy! Those squirrels outside didn’t even recognize me until I barked at them, but I was just showing off my Sheltie beauty! You know, getting groomed is a lot like being baptized. I mean, when they pour that water all over me I become like brand new, so clean, so awesomely beautiful – and my Dad says that’s what happens at baptism! It says in YOUCAT (a catechism for youth) #194-195 “Water symbolizes cleansing and new life, which was already expressed in the baptism of repentance performed by John the Baptist. The Baptism that is administered with water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit is more than a sign of conversion and repentance; it is new life in Christ. That is why the ceremony also includes the signs of anointing, the white garment, and the baptismal candle.” Baptism isn’t washing your outside beautiful body, but your soul – and your soul is what lives forever in heaven, WITH CHRIST in HEAVEN! And isn’t that the entity of our purpose in life?! Easter is a time of celebrating our baptisms and often at Mass we’re reminded of those baptismal promises. Do you remember when you were baptized and what that means? If you want to know more about the awesomeness of Baptism, you can go to your Catechisms, section 1229-1245, and learn a whole lot more. So I guess I wasn’t really baptized when I was at the “spa” but just being so clean and beautiful…. if that’s like baptism well, it has to be great!
