MAHUA TIMES The #Jharkhand State ;elections may not be a cake walk for the BJP as previously assumed. Today was its third phase; from all the three phases polled so far the BJP may not get the numbers for a comfortable majority. In Singhbhum East and West BJP could be loosing three of their sitting seats to the JMM: Potka, Chakradharpur, Manoharpur and yet another one Majgaon to Madhu Kora the former CM. The seat of Arjun Munda the former BJP CM to is not secure. If he wins it, it could be with just a small margin. In todays third phase polls, polling has been brisk above 70% in all rural constituencies with the exception of #Ranchi. The former Deputy NDA CM Sudesh Mahato whose party AJSU is in an alliance with the BJP could also loose his seat to the JMM. If BJP has not been doing well so far the credit should go to the JMM that has consolidated its party and put up a big fight against a powerful national party with full money and media support. The sitting CM Hemant Soren and son of Shibu Soren has surely proved his mettle. At every stage he has attacked the NDA alliance, exposed their anti poor policies and asked the Adivasis to protect their land resources etc. On the other hand the BJP has depended solely on Modi and his public addresses. Other big wigs of the Sangh family have not been able to help the party in any way. The Modi magic is present but it does not seem to be magical enough to help the BJP to retain the 43% votes the party got in the Parliamentary elections. The BJPs only chances to survive is to win in Santal Parganas region which has long been a Cong and JMM bastion. They need to win almost all the seats in the forth and fifth phases if they expect to reach the magic number of 40 to form a majority government. But we must note that the RSS has been working very hard through its schools etc in SP for the past decades and they have made major inroads into SP. Elections in the SP will be the litumus test for the RSS to see if their strategy of wooing the Adivasis through their schools and other outfits is bearing results or not. #Jharkhand is also set to add one more Left member from the previous two it had. Today in the District HQ of #Chaibasa (Singhbhum West) five undertrials were short dead and about 15-17 escaped as they were being escorted back from Chaibasa Court to the District Jail. Today is the weekly market day when thousands of Adivasis from far and near come to Chaibasa for the market. Of the five killed we as yet do not know if any were from the public killed in cross fire.
