MAJOR CHANGES FOR RESIDENTS IN BUSHFIRE PRONE AREAS: Residents living in bushfire prone areas will be able to clear trees from their properties without having to wait for drawn out council approval, under changes announced by Premier Barry O’Farrell. The new laws mean homeowners in areas including the Blue Mountains will not need permission to clear trees within 10 metres of their houses, or shrubs within 50 metres of their house. The news comes just weeks after a mega-fire ripped through the Blue Mountains destroying more than 200 homes. For more information, see next weeks edition of the Gazette.
