MAKING LOVE LAST If we were perfect, we’d be as gods But we are merely human We do the best we can against all odds As simple man and woman Throughout our lives we make mistakes Which sometimes hurt each other But if we’re willing to do what it takes We can recover stronger Forgiveness is the essential key But it requires communication To from our hearts all grievances free Without any reservation Through communication we discover that Which leads to understanding Determine where the relationship’s at What measures are demanding Give voice to explain concern and desire Lend a compassionate ear Abstain from insulting and angers fire Stay respectful and sincere Give value to each others opinions Take ownership of our wrongs Be willing to compromise on decisions Give praise where it belongs Raise one another when feeling down Lend sight where other is blind Bring smile to the face when bearing a frown Share burden for peace of mind Forget the past, live in the present For now is where we exist Work together to overcome dissent As a team of two persist It will take some practice to perfect And there will be times we err But there are no problems we can’t correct If we both just persevere If we each commit to doing our part The advantages are vast We’ll forever stay in each other’s heart And this love we prize will last
