MALAYSIA: Joas said it submitted a report to him outlining the effects of forced resettlement and discrimination from mainstream society on the Orang Asli. It has resulted in the loss of traditional lands and livelihood, which has put them in a depressed situation because their identity and rights as indigenous people are not recognised, Joas secretary general Mary Giun said in a statement. The report also elaborated that “surveys and statistical analysis will not suffice to reveal the status quo of the Orang Asli’s mental health.
