MAMMATUS CLOUDS: Some of you (including me) have never seen these - TopicsExpress

MAMMATUS CLOUDS: Some of you (including me) have never seen these clouds in person. Mammatus clouds occur on the bottom side, typically on cumulonimbus clouds. The air forced down within the cloud causes parts of the cloud to protrude below its base. They are indicators of severe weather, whether before or after. Most of my colleagues in the United States who are in the mid-West and Central Plains have seen these. This picture is from Illinois, an area seeing severe weather on Labor Day.
