**MAN ARRESTED FOR STABBING SISTER** On December 28, 2014 at 12:19 Pm Patrol Officer Kevin Oliver and additional Toms River Police Officers responded to the 3400 Block of Adams Avenue for a report of a female that was bleeding in the street near the home. Upon arrival they quickly determined that she had several stab wounds to the upper torso. While the officers were rendering first aid it was determined that the suspect was also outside of the home in the proximity of the officers. As the backup officers arrived, not knowing if he was still armed with a knife, they attempted to take the suspect, Giovanny Alba into custody. He would not comply with the officers directions and resisted their efforts by initiating a physical confrontation. A struggle ensued and Officer Frank Lauria suffered minor cuts and scrapes. Alba, 23, from Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn New York was eventually subdued and taken into custody. While the officers were struggling with Alba, his mother, Denise Roman, 52, also of Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn, intervened and attempted to prevent the officers from arresting him. The 34 year old stabbing victim, who is the sister of suspect Alba and resides at the Adams Avenue residence, was flown by medevac helicopter to Jersey Shore Medical center in Neptune New Jersey where she is currently undergoing surgery. The investigation is being conducted by Toms River Police Detectives Randy Petrick and John Bajcic as well as Lieutenant Carlos Trujillo-Tovar, Detective Brian Haggerty, and Detective Raymond Gardner of the Ocean County Prosecutors Office Major Crimes Unit with further assistance provided by Ocean County Sheriffs CIU. This incident including the circumstances that led up to the altercation and stabbing are currently under investigation. No further details will be released at this time. Alba was charged with Attempted Murder, Possession of a weapon, and resisting arrest. His bail is set at $250,000. Roman was charged with interfering with a law enforcement officer and released.
