MAN OF THE MOMENT (1935) (no poster available) A British romantic comedy film directed by Monty Banks and starring Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Laura La Plante and Margaret Lockwood. Tony,(Douglas Fairbanks Jr.) who is about to get married, stops Mary from drowning herself. The girl, who he calls Nuisance, is played by Laura LaPlante The fun and misunderstandings follow, and now his marriage to the silly, young rich girl Vera (Margaret Lockwood) is in jeopardy when her father gets involved. A Fun romp, but the plot does involve suicide, gambling, drinking, and other violations of the Hays code,(There was no Hays code in the U.K.) to my knowledge, this film was not released in the U.S. The film is not listed in my Warner Bros reference book as well as some other films made in U.K. It was made at Teddington Studios by the British subsidiary of Warner Brothers. These films are not part of the Turner/Warner Archive and are only available through a British import. Note: the photo is a foreign DVD box. I dont know the name of the company who is distributing this film. This film had its U. S. television premiere on TCM ,September 17th, 2007 during TCMs festival of films made by Warner Brothers at Teddington Studios in the UK. I have seen some of these films air only a few times since then. Some of the other titles that come to my mind are THE PRIME MINISTER, SONS OF THE SEA, and FLYING FORTRESS, to name three that were distributed in the U.S. During their original release date. TCM rents them through a distributor. ***AIRS THURSDAY JANUARY 22ND ON TCM.
