MANAGING DIRECTOR NEEDED The Little Church Theater (LCT) seeks a visionary and entrepreneurial manager who will lead the organization into its next phase of growth. Responsive to and reporting to the Board of Directors, the Managing Director will be responsible for LCT’s programmatic and day-to-day operational activities. She/he will manage a dedicated and creative program and a small, part-time seasonal staff, facilitate the ongoing excellence of existing programs, support performances directors, while identifying exciting new opportunities in concert with the Board. With direction and approval from the Board, he/she will participate in fund-raising and marketing activities. The Managing Director will serve as the lead spokesperson and public face of LCT, representing the organization’s mission and purpose externally with patrons, sponsors, colleagues, and professionals in the field. The ideal candidate will have experience in non-profit management, event planning, and patron/donor stewardship. Additional qualifications include: a thoughtful understanding of theater producing, presenting, and promoting; knowledge of how visual artists are creating work today; a sensitivity to community businesses and residents who support LCT’s efforts and operations; a desire to help LCT expand its outreach and audience share; an openness to supporting the performing and visual arts in exciting new ways, and a passion for uncovering varied sources of new creative vitality. IMMEDIATE PRIORITIES Within the first year, the Managing Director will be expect to: • Thoroughly understand LCT’s mission and values, history, role as a community arts organization, its culture, programs, funding, partners and key stakeholders, operations and potential — and ensure a sound and smooth transition of leadership; • Develop a strong working relationship with the Board Chair and the Executive Committee; gain the confidence of the Board, building relationships that continue to bring forth their best efforts and talents; • Work cooperatively and collegially with the organization’s Marketing Manager; • Lead and nurture strong relationships with volunteer and paid staff and build trust and cooperation within the organization; maintain transparency and open channels of communication; • Nurture and manage relationships with patrons, vendors, tenants, and suppliers; • Collect, distribute, and respond to mail; thoughtfully respond to donations in a timely and diplomatic manner; respond to telephone inquires promptly; • Attend all monthly meetings of Board, prepared with reports on the status of assigned responsibilities; • Evaluate and assist in refining the organizational structure. Review current human, financial, and operating systems to ensure that both short- and long-term needs are being met as thoroughly and efficiently as possible; • Create an operations budget, event budgets, and process contracts, royalties; • Assume a growing role in fundraising strategies, immediately establishing personal relationships with key donors in order to facilitate renewal of major gifts and grants; identify opportunities to diversify and expand the organization’s donor base. The duties are part-time from September through April, with increasing hours in May, and full time through August.
