MANALI Manali is a hill station nestled in the mountains of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh near the northern end of the Kullu Valley, at an altitude of 2,050 m in the Beas River Valley. The climate in Manali is predominantly cold during winters, and moderately cool during summers. The average temperature during summer is between 04 °C and 15 °C, and between −15 °C and 05 °C in the winter. ROHTANG PASS Rohtang Pass, at an altitude of 3979m above sea level, is another adventure tourist site where it can be cold even on a summer day. It is the highest point on the Manali-Keylong road and provides a wide panoramic view of mountains rising far above clouds, which is truly breath taking. Close by is a small lake called Dassaur Lake. Beas Kund, the source of river Beas, is also nearby. Heading from manali, Rohtang Pass is the gateway to Lahaul and the Kunzum Pass is the entrance pass to the Spiti Valley from Lahaul. The highest Pass in Spiti Valley .Kunzum is situated at a distance of around 125 Kms from Manali While going to this pass, the panoramic view of Bara-Sigri glacier (second longest glacier in the world) which lasts upto 55 kms connecting Manali- Bara Shigri- Keylong is enthrilling and inspiring. At kunzum pass is a temple known as the Kunzum devi temple. As per a local tradition, all vehicles stop at the temple to pay obeisance to the deity. Kunzum is also popular with trekkers and adventure seekers. The 12 km trek to Chandratal is very popular. It have a lunar and rugged landscape. The terrain is also inhospitable. On way back from Gramphoo one can either return to Manali or can go to Leh via Keylong , Darcha, Baralacha la, Sarchu, Tanglang la by road The Kunzum Devi Temple at Kunzum Pass HADIMBA TEMPLE It is an ancient cave temple dedicated to Hidimbi Devi, who was a character in the Indian epic, Mahābhārata. The temple is surrounded by a beautiful cedar forest (Dhungri Van Vihar) at the foot of the Himālayas. The sanctuary is built over a huge rock jutting out of the ground, which was worshipped as an image of the deity. The structure was built in the year 1553. SOLANG VALLEY It is popularly known as Snow Point, is 13 km northwest of Manali and famous for its 300-meter ski lift. It is a picturesque spot and offers splendid views of glaciers and the snow-capped mountains. Solang valley also offers attractions like paragliding, snorkeling etc. Jagatsukh, the former capital of Manali, is also an important spot. HOT WATER SPRINGS Around 6.5 Km downstream from Manali,natural sulfurous water flows from the bowels of earth. Around 3 km from Manali, across the Beas river is Vashist, a small village with natural sulphur springs. Modern bathhouses, with Turkish-style showers, have the hot water piped into them for the convenience of the visitors who come here to benefit from the medicinal properties. ADVENTURE SPORTS River rafting, skiing, zorbing, trekking, snow scootering, and river crossing. Manali is famous for all the adventure sports and is a therefore preferred by tourists. Paragliding is quite popular in Manali, especially in the peak season. The scene is located at Solang Valley. There are multiple levels, starting from the basic 1 minute flying progressing to a more fun 5 minute flight but the ultimate is the half an hour flight for which they take you up almost halfway to rohtang, and bring you back to solang all the way by paragliding. Early morning walks as manali is best enjoyed before the town wakes up.
