MANDAUE CITY EVENT: SINULOG TRANSLACION One of the most awaited activities during SINULOG in Cebu is the TRANSLACION. Traslacion, Spanish for travelling, is the journey of the images of the Santo Nino and Our Lady of the Guadalupe from the Basilica to the National Shrine of St. Joseph in Mandaue City. According to one doctor of church history, Fr. Marvin Mejia, Traslacion is the time when Our Lady of Guadalupe and Sto. Niño visit Mandaue City. Fr. Mejia adds, it is similar to the Gospel when Mary visited her cousin Elizabeth. Mejia also emphasized that the visit has a deeper meaning: “Mahisama unta kita ni Santa Maria nga niduaw sa iyang ig-agaw, nga magdala kita sa pagtoo sa batang Jesus ngadto sa uban (We should be like St. Mary who visited her cousin, and brought the faith of the child Jesus to others),” he told the devotees. On January 16, 2015, Cebu City Mayor Michael MIKE Rama will escort the images and turn over Our Lady of Guadalupe and Sto. Niño over to Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes as they meet at the boundary of barangays Mabolo and Subangdaku. After the vigil in Mandaue, the foot procession from St. Joseph precedes the fluvial procession from Ouano Wharf back to Cebu City. In another homily, Msgr. Daniel Sanico who officiated the welcome mass at the National Shrine of St. Joseph in Mandaue City in 2014, urged devotees to strengthen their faith. For Fr. Sanico, Translacion is our travel from the world to the heavens. In 2014, at least 60,000 participated the Translacion de Sinulog.
