MANHATTAN, Kan. – Manhattan Christian College (9-7-0) clinched the number one seed for the upcoming National Christian College Athletics Association (NCCAA) Division II Central Regional Tournament with a 4-0 intercollegiate men’s soccer victory over Grace University (5-9-0), Saturday, Oct. 19, in Manhattan, Kansas. Grace holds the number two seed, and Central Christian College of the Bible (Mo) is the number three seed in the regional to be competed Nov. 1-2, in Manhattan, Kansas. Manhattan outshot Grace, 21-1, and attempted 16 shots on goal and 12 corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Spencer Hoyt (Norwalk, Iowa/Norwalk H.S.), who started in goal in the first eight matches of the season, returned to the Royals’ line-up after missing five matches with an ankle injury and saved 12 Manhattan shots on goal. Grace defensive ace Josh Grant (Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City North H.S.) made three non-goalie saves, including a miraculous last-second kick save off the goal line of a nearly-certain goal at 47:15 of the second half. Manhattan forward Ben Williams right-footed home a perfect crossing pass from defender Matthew Saathoff at the 26:53 mark of the first half, and the Crusaders held a slim 1-0 lead at intermission. Defender David Krigbaum scored unassisted at 49:00 in the second half after a scramble for a loose ball in the goal mouth, and midfielder Gustavo Ramirez made the score 3-0 at 61:25 and assisted on the Crusaders’ fourth goal at 75:43. Sophomore forward Trenton McNeel (Glenwood, Iowa/Glenwood Community H.S.), Grace’s leading scorer with 7 goals and 6 assists for 20 points and an NCCAA All-Central Region selection last season as a freshman, missed the Manhattan match with an ankle injury. UPCOMING MATCHES: After a 10-day hiatus for the Grace’s annual Bible Conference and fall break, Grace men’s soccer hosts Faith Baptist Bible College, Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m., at Morrison Stadium on the campus of Creighton University and then competes at the NCCAA Division II Central Regionals, Nov. 1-2, hosted by Manhattan Christian College (Kan.).
