MANILA — Hailed as the Philippine SuperLiga’s MVP, Petron - TopicsExpress

MANILA — Hailed as the Philippine SuperLiga’s MVP, Petron import Alaina Bergsma admitted that the recognition was just a bonus because winning the championship was her ultimate goal. “The last time I won the MVP, we lost the championship. That’s harder. I’d rather win the championship than any individual award. Now that I finally won the championship, I realized that MVP is just a bonus,” Bergsma told Rivals “But I’m really happy we won. This time, we didn’t do anything different and special. We just played our hearts out. It worked. We won,” Bergsma said while recollecting her team’s victory over Generika Life Savers. Although the six-foot-three spiker expressed her enjoyment in playing in the PSL, she also revealed some of the frustrations she observed in the conduct of the tournament. “(The referee) is not following the FIVB rules. He took five or six points away from us. I told him that I’ll do my job as a player, if he will do his job as a referee,” Bergsma said. “That’s me, I just can’t let any single point pass. I won’t. I will fight for it,” the American beauty queen told Rivals. Bergsma admitted that they lost the second set because of Generika’s strong service. “Generika served really well. They made us struggle at some point. In the next set, you can see how we changed and improved in our reception,” she quipped. After her two-month stay in the Philippines, Bergsma is proud to confess her fascination to the culture and the people of the country. “I love Philippine Super Liga. I definitely want to come back. If I don’t come back to play, I’d definitely come back to visit,” she shared. And when asked about the thing she will miss most, her answer was heartfelt. “I’ll be missing the Filipino people who are always happy, it’s not like that over the world.”
