MANILA — If the problem doesn’t get solved, then volleyball fans will be in for a rough start in 2015. With reports that the Philippine Olympic Committee is set to conduct tryouts for the Philippine team who will represent the country in the Asian women’s U23 volleyball championship, secretary-general Otie Camangian said only the Philippine Volleyball Federation has the right to form a delegation for the competition. “Technically, it should be the Philippine Volleyball Federation. Both the team and in any event matuloy yung pag-host nung event, it should be PVF because as of the moment, we have an updated letter from the FIVB dated November 19 telling anybody that PVF is in good standing with the FIVB and the present leaders are being recognized by the FIVB.” Camangian told Rivals. “PVF is still the recognized organization. Therefore, it follows, as far as the national team is concerned, that PVF should spearhead in hosting.” Revealing that the Philippines is in danger of losing the hosting rights due to all the power struggle happening in the organization, Camangian shared that the Asian Volleyball Confederation is closely monitoring the happenings in the embattled national sports associaton. “I believe that the Asian Volleyball Confederation is monitoring what’s happening in the Philippines precisely because we believe this entity knows their regulations,” he said. “They know that they cannot intervene because technically they are being barred from being involved. It is an internal problem and therefore, it must be resolved internally.” Given until January to fix the issues between the PVF and the POC, he added that it will be a sorry loss not only for the athletes, but the national team as well should the hosting rights be awarded to another country. Having already received a couple of entry forms from neighboring Asian nations, Camangian said he, along with the federation and team sponsor PLDT Home Fibr are working hard to talk things through with the other groups. “As of now, we are starting to receive confirmation from different countries. Entry forms. Kung hindi ako nagkakamali may tatlo na.” he quipped. “It’s just that the AVC, through the latest communication with (PVF president) Sir Karl (Chan), parang we’re being given until the month of January to settle the problem. Otherwise, they might be constrained to transfer the hosting to other countries.” Camangian adds, “That’s the reason why we are trying our best to solve the problem. Not to fast-track but to solve it. Kasi kawawa yung national team. Yung mga bata.” “Even yung volleyball community. Of course they are praying and hoping. As far as PVF is concerned, we are more than willing to solve this. In fact, we are communicating with the Philippine Olympic Committee, the stakeholders and with AVC.” — Rivals 2014
