MAPCO Thilawa Port Attracts Foreign Interest Myanmar Agribusiness - TopicsExpress

MAPCO Thilawa Port Attracts Foreign Interest Myanmar Agribusiness Public Corp ( MAPCO) has received expressions of interest from at least a dozen international companies since it invited tenders from companies to establish a port at Thilawa Special Economic Zone. A total of 14 companies submitted expressions of interest, including companies from Japan, Singapore, India and China. Established in 2012, MAPCO was formed to mobilise public savings and attract further investment in agriculture and agro-based industries in Myanmar. Until now, MAPCO has been forced to hire ports at Asia World and Thilawa terminal as it doesn’t have its own port. MAPCO announced that the harbour will not only be used to export rice, but also as the site for a warehouse to store high quality rice and agro-products for exports, and rice –drying machines. MAPCO is deciding on which company they will join with to build the port. K.Z.Mon
