MARBLE HALL RUNAWAY FUGITIVES NABBED MARBLE HALL - Two fugitives who escaped from the police holding cells in Marble Hall have finally been taken into custody. The suspects were arrested in Hercules on Friday following a tipoff from community members who saw their pictures in one of the daily newspaper. A joint police operation involving the local police, the community and Marble Hall members led the police to a bridge - where the two had sought refuge – and managed to arrest the fugitives. The two have already been transported back to Marble Hall where they will have to answer for cases of burglary, murder and escaping from lawful custody, at the Groblerdsdal Magistrate Court on Monday 20 October 2014. Fickson Motsepe (22) and Lucky Mokone (20) - were the subject of a major manhunt together with a third suspect Elias Mashishi (29). They overpowered two officers three weeks ago while receiving their breakfast. The suspects managed to disarm one of the officers who at that time was stabbed with a sharp instrument on his shoulder. The suspects opened the cell gates and ran away. Police were alerted and a chase ensued. Coming face to face with the police, a gunfight ensued whereby one suspect - Mashishi was fatally wounded. The other two managed to escape. One of the pursuing members was shot on the leg and is still recuperating at home. Limpopo Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Fanie Masemola has heaped praise to members of the community and the media for the invaluable information that they provided to the police with regard to the whereabouts of the escapees. Masemola said congratulations are in order but he will be waiting, holding his breath to see them get the harshest possible jail sentence. “People like these who prey on other people’s hard labour, who are prepared to kill to pursue their illegal intentions have no place in society and should remain behind bars for good”, said Masemola.
