MARCH 28 - The Three-Mile Island power plant in Dauphin County PA - TopicsExpress

MARCH 28 - The Three-Mile Island power plant in Dauphin County PA immediately brings to mind the worst accident in US commercial nuclear power plant history as a failure in the non-nuclear secondary system led to a stuck-open relief valve in the primary system, allowing large amounts of reactor coolant to escape. The result was the release of radioactive gases and iodine into the atmosphere and the (Nuclear Regulatory Commission authorized) release of 40,000 gallons of radioactive waste water into the Susquehanna River – on this day in 1979. Its a reminder to us, as we pray today, to thank God for our many conveniences and to pray for those who make their living serving Christ in the power industry!
