MARIANNA BOROUGH, WEST BETH TWP. TO CONSIDER NEW ORDINANCES via Observer-Reporter Residents and business owners in Marianna Borough and West Bethlehem Township are invited to attend a public meeting Nov. 5 regarding the creation of a multimunicipal zoning ordinance for the two communities. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. at the Marianna Volunteer Fire Department, 84 Broad St., Marianna. The project, which began earlier this year and is anticipated to be completed at the end of 2014 or early 2015, is an implementation item from the joint comprehensive plan adopted by both communities in 2013. Neither community now has zoning so this project entails creating new land use regulations for both Marianna and West Bethlehem. “We are at a point where we are ready to present the draft zoning map and discuss the proposed zoning districts with the public,” said Les Midla, a steering committee member for the project. “Representatives from the borough and township have been working together on this project to implement the shared vision for the two communities that came out of the adopted joint comprehensive plan in 2013.” The meeting will include a presentation that summarizes the zoning map and various districts and permitted uses. Interested parties will be given the opportunity to comment on the proposed ordinance and identify any potential issues or concerns which require special attention. Mackin Engineering Co. has been hired to facilitate the zoning ordinance update.
