MARINE SHIP WEEKEND Museum Ships Weekend (MSW) is Amateur Radios premier worldwide special event activity for historical/museum ships and occurs once a year. This activity has been in existence for close to twenty years. The purpose of MSW is to activate as many world-wide ships stations so the rest of the amateur fraternity can contact as many ships as possible. The activities start Friday, June 06 at 1700 local time to Sunday at 1700. Each year over 100 ships participate. This will be the USS Lucids third year as a participant. During MSW most ships will be open for visitors and tours. The Lucid is tied-up at the Futures Academy, formerly the Naval Reserve Center on Monte Diablo, in Stockton. The list of ships include the big ones such Battleships, Aircraft Carriers, and small ones such as tug boats and a presidential yacht. While most ships are from Navies of the world, there are many other civilian types such as paddle steamers, sailing barque, and a railroad car ferry. The ships are from as far away as Sweden, Russia, Australia, and Portugal. The Lucid makes contacts (QSOs) to most states and Canadian provinces, Hawaii, South America, New Zealand and Australia, and Japan. Last year Lucid made over 1000 QSOs in the SSB (voice) and CW (Morse Code) modes.
