MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Sept. 14, 2013 marks the 10th annual Descendants of the 136th New York Infantry Regiment Reunion at the old Parade Grounds of the Regiment at Letchworth State Park, Portage, New York. This is near the Portageville entrance to the Park. The Reunion is FREE and open to EVERYONE. The gathering starts at 9 a.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. There are restrooms, picnic tables and a building where many diaries, letters, photos of the men who served, etc., will be on display. If you have items belonging to your ancestor who served with this unit, please come and share. Renew friendships and make new ones. Join us to help honor the men who went off to War with the 136th New York Regiment, many never returning to their homes and families. We now have 10 books of men with pictures that are listed by company, and also new letters from the men. Some of the members of the 136th New York Infantry Reenacting Group which is made up of Boy Scouts, will be attending the Reunion and will put on a Civil War military drill at 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m. on the Old Parade Grounds where our Reunion will be held and where our ancestors drilled! Also, the William J. Carter Post of the G.A. R. in Nunda, New York will have its doors open for any descendants to visit on the day of the Reunion, beginning at 4:15 p.m. Come see where many of the Civil War veterans met after the War. This is our 10th Reunion! We would like to see everyone who can possibly attend to be there to spend the day or as much time as you can with other descendants. Bring a lunch, walk on the ground where your ancestor drilled, and visit with other descendants. Who knows? Maybe you’ll see a photo, read an article, or hear something about your descendant you hadn’t seen or heard about before.
