MARKING MODI: A critical outlook on Indias most powerful man. On May 16th this year, the BJP led by Narendra Modi won an unprecedented 282 out of 543 seats in the Indian Lower House of Parliament, heralding in what was the most anticipated government shift since Barack Obama took charge of the USA in 2009. Stock markets skyrocketed, neighbouring countries took note and India began its resurgence. Currently ranked by Forbes as the 15th most powerful person in the world, Narendra Modi’s move from Gujarat to New Delhi to take on his new role was ‘trending’ for a number of reasons. Admirers spoke of his business sense and ability to transform India into an attractive location for businesses to thrive on, while critics doubted his ability to overcome his scarred foreign relations with the USA and his party’s Hindu nationalist tendencies. One way or the other, everyone was talking about India, and everyone was talking about Modi. 6 months on, come join Warwick India Forum as we host 3 expert panellists, to be announced in the coming week, to discuss and debate the progress made by the Modi led government on 3 crucial fronts- Economics, Social, and Foreign Policy.
