MARKS BEST SONGS OF 1975 COUNTDOWN ... NO. 235 SATIN SOUL–LOVE UNLIMITED ORCHESTRA (#22, February) The first of four different appearances of songs with Barry Whites signature all over it, Satin Soul got to No. 22 to be the second and last Top 40 hit for his instrumental band Love Unlimited Orchestra, the first being the No. 1 hit Loves Theme from the year before. Another fashionable song that combines early disco with sweet jazz and silky soul, the song features the work of the horn section led by Ernie Watts, Emmitt North Jr. and a young saxophonist named Kenny Gorelich, a high schooler from the Seattle area who split time going to school and then the University of Washington and spending time in Los Angeles with the band. Of course, today, hes best known as Kenny G. The guitars were led by David Walker and Lee Ritenour. The band stayed together under the direction of White and others until disbanding in 1983. And in this video, it is someone else (though who I do not know) leading the LUO through Satin Soul. Thoughts, memories? Enjoy!
