MARTIAN MADNESS - Orson Welles WAR OF THE WORLDS broadcast the day before Halloween, October 30, 1938 was told with such realism that many listeners actually believed the United States had been invaded, if not by Martians then, perhaps, Germany or another unfriendly power. The next day, newspaper headlines screamed about a widespread, though contemporary historians have deemed these claims as exaggerated. Nonetheless, the broadcast proved the vast power and influence the broadcast media had over its audiences. On September 9, 1957 CBS STUDIO ONE, offered the exceptional live one-hour docudrama, THE NIGHT AMERICA TREMBLED, about the events that occurred the night of Orson Welles famous Mercury Theatre radio broadcast of H.G. Welles WAR OF THE WORLDS. Orson Welles was never mentioned by name during the entire program. youtu.be/qZ_kN0GgknI
