MARY I’ve never understood the concept of being offered a study guide or study session and not making use of it. It is significantly helpful to have someone take this huge bulk of information and give you giant hints at the specifics that will be on the test. So convenient. Mary is sort of like this study session. She is the surest and truest way to Christ. No hoops to jump through. No unnecessary information. No trick questions. Just a direct connection to Christ. So often we just dismiss Mary. She’s the mother of Jesus, yeah. Through the mystery of the Trinity, Jesus and God are one. She is the mother of God, okay. Moving on. Right? But we’re missing out on so much. Mary gave birth to Jesus, we know that, but we are missing something within that context. By giving birth to Jesus, She began God’s most important work. It was through Her that Jesus came. He came to save the world from eternal death. “The totality of God’s universal plan of Salvation, through Mary.” She raised Jesus as any mother would raise their child. She knew Him and understood Him. She knew the sound of His voice. She knew His likes. She knows His heart. Who then is a better example of how to help us understand Christ? To help us know Christ? To help us love Christ? Well all know that if you want to really get to know someone, you should talk to their mother. She will hold nothing back and talk them up a storm. Why is Mary any different? Thing is, She isn’t. Christ came to us, born of a Virgin. Christ came to us, through Mary. We want Christ. We need Christ. What better way to get to Christ than through His Mother, Mary? What better way to have a request granted, God-willing? Well, through the Mother of course! But we have a part to play in all of this as well- “Do whatever He tells you.” -John 2:5 This Lenten blog series is based upon St. Louis de Montforts writings. Unless otherwise noted, all the phrases in quotation marks are taken from the book Jesus Living in Mary.
