This course will help the participant not only to come to an understanding with the necessary nomenclature surrounding the many forms of Trigger Point work, but will also refine their understanding of what Trigger Point work is, and how it is presented to potential and existing clients. Emphasis is placed upon recognizing and refining the techniques that the attendee already has, and encouraging them to further their education in Trigger Point techniques, if necessary. Pre- and Post- Surgical Massage Instructor: Christopher Deery, LMT 12 hours (9am-4pm Sun. 11/16 and 9am-4pm Mon. 11/17) With the emergence of massage therapy as recognized health care, the role of the massage therapist is evolving to include pre and post-surgical massage. Unfortunately, the educational base that many massage therapists have does not include the information necessary to responsibly and competently provide service in this paradigm. This course will not only introduce the participant to the specific anatomy, procedures, and concerns surrounding ten of the most common surgeries, but will prepare them to work with clients during this process. An emphasis on integrating with Pain Management Physicians, to address the unique needs of a pre or post-surgical client is focused on. Learning to competently work within the established scope of practice of massage therapy, integrating care and treatments with recognized medical practices, as well as adapting our existing individual skill sets to better work within the medical model is included in this class. Ethics in the Sandbox: Learning to Play Well With Others Instructor: Xerlan Deery, LMT 4 Hours Getting along with other therapists can be crucial to your well-being, volunteer experiences and your practice. Participants will learn about conflict management, effective communication methods and creating understanding even if you do not agree with others decisions and practices. Taking the time to learn to Co-pete instead Competing, and how to create a referral network among therapists in your community are just some of the topics covered in this refreshing, but serious ethics class. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MLRI - Massage Licensing Renewal Intensive - 24 CEUs - Dec. 13-15, 2014 Sat. 12/13, 8:30am-5:30pm: BODY MECHANICS & DEEP TISSUE REFINEMENT part 1 Sun 12/14, 8:30am-5:30pm: DEEP TISSUE REFINEMENT part 2 & MEASUREMENTS & MEASURABLE OUTCOMES part 1 Monday 12/15, 8:30am-9pm: MEASUREMENTS & MEASURABLE OUTCOMES part 2, GRASPING GREEN ETHICS & CPR Saturday Dec. 13, 2014 Common Sense Body Mechanics 8:30am - 12:30pm: This class invites the participant to examine a more massage therapist focused approach to logical and practical positioning when addressing a client in a massage session. Due to burnout and the “physical demands” of massage, many people drop out of the profession within 3 to 5 years, a sad fact, and with proper body mechanics, the physical reasons for abandoning massage therapy can be addressed. With the popularity of such techniques as deep tissue massage, and some forms that may require more physical focus on the part of the massage therapist, Common Sense Body Mechanics can help the participant rigorously examine the physics of their positioning, as well as learn better methods of utilizing their stance and physical approach while performing to provide a better experience – not only for themselves, but for their clients. Deep Tissue Refinement (part 1) 1:30-5:30: Deep tissue massage is one of the most frequently requested and most commonly practiced modalities in the massage industry. In this presentation, the participant will learn to properly engage the body and refine their existing deep tissue massage skills, while remaining aware to their posture, as well as their depth and focus, while providing a deep tissue session. Topics include: ‘therapeutic discomfort’, body mechanics, and the use of elbows in a professional massage. Sunday, December 14th, 2014 Deep Tissue Refinement (part 2) 8:30-12:30 Measurements & Measurable Outcomes (part 1) 1:30-5:30: This course addresses one of the most important deficits in Massage Therapy – measuring the outcome and potential outcomes for massage therapy treatments, and communicating those outcomes to Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physicians, and other Healthcare Professionals. Through the information in this course, medical professionals, and other health care professionals will benefit from knowing the exact goals, treatment expectations and achievable outcomes that massage therapy can achieve. Monday, December 15th, 2014 Measurements & Measurable Outcomes (part 2) 8:30a-12:30 pm Grasping Green Ethics 1:30pm-5:30 pm: Green, organic and natural are quite popular words today. This class will go through definitions and affordable ideas for Massage Therapists to change or improve their practices practically and ethically. Facilitating Massage Therapists to do an ethical self-assessment of themselves and their practices, learning how to implement green concepts and products and protocols include the ever growing number of conscious consumers.
