MATCH REPORT: Bishop Auckland Girls U13s v Newton Aycliffe Youth U13s Helen kindly asked me to report on this mornings match, so here goes!! Todays match saw a tricky away trip to our near neighbours Bishop Auckland. Straight from the kick-off Newton Aycliffe applied the pressure at a windswept Hunwick. From a corner, Molly nearly forced the ball over the line in a goal mouth scramble...where is Hawkeye when you need it! Then a great ball out of defence from Paige found Chloe who she slid the ball underneath the oncoming goalkeeper from just outside the box. 0-1. With Bishop pressing, Lily picked the ball up in midfield and found Chloe who beat her marker and fired into the top corner. 0-2. The Baggies continued to create chances themselves and squandered a great opportunity to get back into the match when they were awarded a penalty just before half-time. Their striker stepped up only to put it wide. Big let off. 0-2 at the break. The second half saw the girls defend a number of corners early on, attacking the ball and clearing their lines. Great to see. One of those corners saw Lily control the ball and push it up to Chloe, who, one-on-one with the keeper, placed it low. 0-3 The girls were in control and pressed hard whilst heading clear on any Bishop attacks. Courtney then produced a string of great saves keeping the Baggies out! Then a well worked short corner from Lily to Martha found Chloe just inside the box who turned and made it 0-4. Bishop never gave up and as they closed in late on, Courtney denied them again with a fine stop! With the ref about to blow for full-time, the Baggies grabbed a late consolation. A great battling performance all round. Final Score 1-4.
