MATCH REPORTS 17th & 18th MAY Kenilworth v Olton & WW Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division - 1st XI The Firsts had to settle for a draw as they were unable to chase down Olton’s 254-4 ending 32 runs short at close of play in their Premier Division League match. Webb made an unbeaten 120 and Trilloe 39 not out for Olton as they shared in a 99 run unbroken partnership. Phil Edmonds took 2-50 and Liam Newton and Tom Pope a wicket a piece. In reply, Kenilworth looked solid with skipper Dave Edmunds hitting a impressive 84 in which he smashed 8 sixes and 3 boundaries. James Nason chipped in with a solid 66 (10 x 4) whilst Guy Pearson was on unbeaten on 42 (6 x 4) as the side ended the day on a very creditable 222-7. Kenilworth v. Weoley Hill Warwickshire Cricket League Division 2 - 2nd XI A late flurry of wickets in the run chase meant that Kenilworth 2nds had to settle for a draw at Weoley Hill who had posted 162-9. The side were in contention to win during their reply but ended on 123-8 after Mark Stranks fell after making 53, Steve Rhodes 13 and James Adamson 12 and leaving the side 40 runs short of their target. Earlier, Kenilworth bowlers Ian Baker had taken 3-39, Charlie Stranks 3-40, Geoff Edmunds 2-20 and Steve Rhodes the other wicket to fall as Trafford made 40 and Cannes 29 for Weoley Hill. Kenilworth v. Lapworth Cotswold Hills League – 3rd XI The Thirds failed to overcome Lapworth and fell short by 44 runs as they were bowled out for 182. Lapworth had posted 226-9 after Akram made 54, Faber 49 and Evans 29 despite Indy Matharu taking a fine 4-50 and youngster Jonno Sparks 2-34 for Kenilworth whilst Sam Leach, Freddie Davies and Chris Beach chipped with a wicket each. In reply, the side started well with Geoff Hay making 43, Leach 29 and Ed Smith 28 but the side then slumped to 135-9. However, Matharu 10* and Sparks teamed up with the bat to put on 47 for the last wicket. Number 11 Sparks was impressive as he hit five boundaries in his knock of 30 before he fell. Kenilworth v. Mountsorrell The Sunday side enjoyed a comfortable 8 wicket win at Mountsorrell who were bowled out for 140 in their 40 overs a side friendly match. Wood hit an unbeaten 58 with 10 boundaries for the hosts as all Kenilworth bowlers picked up wickets. Colt Ryan Bull made the early breakthrough of removing both openers to leave Mountsorrell reeling on 6-2 whilst Russell Watson picked up 2-30, James Adamson 2-22, old stager Andy Smith 2-25. Henry Curran took 1-24, his wicket the ball of the day and skipper Chris Prophet closed the innings taking the final wicket. In reply, a 71 run opening partnership between Andy Dadswell and Jorjeet Singh set Kenilworth on the road to an easy win. Dadswell made 31 and Singh 32, both hitting 5 boundaries. Steve Kelley made an unbeaten 32 and Prophet 21 not out as they put on a match winning unbroken partnership of 67 runs to see Kenilworth to victory and 143-2 inside 23 overs.
