MATCH REPORTS FROM WEEKEND 5/6th JULY Kenilworth 1st XI v. Rugby In a game that saw 450 runs hit neither side were able to take advantage as the bowlers toiled away against very solid batting throughout the day and both had to settle for a draw. Rugby posted 250-6 thanks to Robards 82, Edwards 59 not out and Ewer 58. Ed Ruswa was again the most successful Kenilworth bowler as he snapped up 3-49 whilst Neil Goodman and Dave Edmunds took a wicket each. Goodman then turned out to best Kenilworth batsman on show as he made an unbeaten 62 hitting 7 boundaries and two sixes, closely followed by Guy Pearson who made 45 hitting 6 boundaries. Phil Edmonds had earlier made 25 whilst Edmunds hit 22 as the side replied with 201-6 to secure the draw. Kenilworth 2nd XI v. Pickwick An under strength Kenilworth side frustrated run away League leaders Pickwick and hang on for a draw. Pickwick posted 221-5 as Mir hit 82 not out, Atif Khan 63 and Ali 40 despite the best efforts of Jae Naik who took 2-51, Indy Matharu 1-19 and Ali Peebles 1-18. The side ended the day on 84-8 after Dave Howe had earlier made 34 before wickets started to tumble. However, it was left to the obdurate Geoff Edmunds to guide the side to safety with 11 not out as he batted the last few overs out to secure the draw. Kenilworth 3rd XI v Warwick Kenilworth romped to a 5 wicket win against Warwick and notch up their 5th consecutive League victory that moved them to the top of the Division and remain the Club’s most successful side of the season. Warwick were skittled out for 99 as they were unable to cope with the strong and youthful Town bowling attack that saw starlet Ryan Bull take 3-9 from his 5 frugal overs, Charlie Curtis 2-37 and Danny Boneham 1-14 from his 6 overs whilst old stagers skipper Sam Leach and Ed Smith shared the other wickets to fall. In reply, the side easily chased down the target after Vish Bora opening set them on the path to victory as he hit 38 with 3 boundaries and a six whilst Boneham chipped in with a solid 25 with 3 boundaries. It was then left to the impressive youngster Freddie Davies to bring the game to a close with a 6 as he made an unbeaten 26 as he guided the side to 101-5. His delightful innings saw him also hit 4 boundaries in a day that belonged to Kenilworth. Kenilworth v Stoneleigh Kenilworth enjoyed a 6 wicket win in their Sunday friendly fixture against neighbours Stoneleigh in an entertaining affair in a day for colt Nathan Chawt to remember as he made his Senior cricket debut for Kenilworth and hit the winning runs as well as taking 2 catches including a one handed one in the deep as the ball seemingly sailed over his head in the deep . Stoneleigh posted 141-8 in their 40 overs thanks to Paul Lazenby who made 36 before a diving catch from Charlie Stranks, one of two he took, ended his knock. Baines added 23 and Venkat 22. Tom Anscombe was the pick of the side’s bowlers claiming a fine 3-38 with his variations whilst veteran Andy Smith took 2-22 with Sam Leach, Geoff Edmunds and Stranks claiming the other wickets to fall. In reply, Kenilworth reached 142-4 with 3 overs to spare as openers Ian Summers made 25 with four boundaries and a six whilst colt Josh Palmer made a delightful 39 hitting 4 boundaries. Dan Horner made 19 whilst Steve Kelley hit 18, one more than his 14 ball one over spell had earlier gone for as he developed the yips. Yet, it was left to youngster Chawt to see the side home with an unbeaten 13 despite the efforts of Stoneleigh bowlers Jitesh Patel who took 2-16, Jay Patel 1-21 and Phil Chapman 1-24.
