MATCH SUMMARY How Mine ……1 Highlanders ….0 NEW BOYS, How Mine Football Club completed a stunning league double over seasoned campaigners Highlanders when they dispatched their more illustrious opponents by a goal to nil before a stunned and disappointed Barbourfields. How Mine came into this match looking to contain Highlanders – judging by the time wasting antics of their goalie as early as the 10th min- but soon noticed that Bosso were out of sorts. They came out of their shells and took the game to Bosso. It was a tale of two halves as Bosso dominated the first half in its entirety but missed a glut of chances. It was a frenzied start by Bosso and probably the best chance earlier on fell to Gabriel Nyoni who squandered a great ball by directing a tame effort at Ephraim Mazarura. Wave after wave of attacks could not unlock the Miners’ defence as either our crosses were over cooked or aimless shots were taken. Masimba Mambare had the ball in the back of the nets after fifteen minutes but the referee had long pulled it back for offside. Twice we won free kicks in promising positions and twice we could not bridge the How Mine wall which stood firm. The first half fizzled out. The second half got off to the worst possible start for Kelvin Kaindu’s charges as How Mine struck a few minutes after restart. How Mine broke down the left and Kangwa was beaten for pace. The ball seemed to cross the byline before it was crossed into the box. It bubbled up in the box and a how mine striker pounced with a crisp shot into the roof of the net. Everyone would have expected that goal to sting Bosso back into life but alas no response was forthcoming. Highlanders get deflated lately each time they concede. It has become a mountain to steep for the team to come from behind lately. How Mine dictated the pace of the game from then on. Our midfield which promised so much, suddenly had no pace, no craft, no guile and was just poor. We however created a few chance of our own and Bheki shot over when scoring seemed easy late into the contest. The substitutes introduced by KK never altered the tempo of the game. _________________________________________________ DIYA 5 He stood no chance when the How Mine goal was rifled in. Was a spectator the entire first half. LAWSON 4 He seems to have lost his shooting boots. His crosses are no longer as accurate and the free kicks are out of range. Improved though on his tracking back. KANGWA 5 Ran rugged but to no avail. His mazy runs upfront yielded no results though. Was beaten for pace ( a rare occurrence) when the cross that resulted in the goal came over. FAZO 5 Was a bit jittery today but his recovery was impressive INNOCENT 5 A relatively comfortable first half but had to work his socks off in the second stanza. A few misplaced passes. SIMON MUNAWA 4 Was invincible in the middle of the park for the entire game and took aim with some wild shots which were off target MTHULISI 2 Was awful and never put in a good shift at all. Almost all his passes were misdirected and was lackadaisical when marking. MAMBARE 2 Was finding himself in the right places all the time but his efforts were going astray. Lacked the precision that he has shown over the last couple of weeks when he was with the national team RIO 5 Had an outstanding first half but fizzled out badly during the latter parts. GABRIEL 4 Was outmuscled by the giant pairing of Dick & Gilbert, barely had a sniff this afternoon BHEKI 3 Had a poor showing, never really got going save for the odd touch here and there. Wasted a glorious chance to equalize when he shot over from point blank range. SUBS: NJABULO-HARITEN-MASITARA 2 None of them brought the much needed impetus to the game.
