MATTHEW 25 (Wednesdays Chapter) This chapter sees Jesus giving a series of parables related to His Second Coming. Each of the parable are rich and need attention to really dig into them and draw lessons from there. We will try to cover all three of them and draw the major themes and see ow connected the parables. The first parable is about the 10 virgins who were all waiting for the groom. All of the virgins fell asleep at some point, but the difference was in the extra preparedness of the wise half. They were not entirely caught by surprise as they had prepared early. The major theme in this parable is the unknown time of His coming. Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming. (Matthew 25:13 NKJV) Preparing for Jesus coming is about character development. Its about getting our characters to be just like Jesus. This cannot be done in a rush when He is at the door. It is a daily exercise. The parable on the talents is about what we do while waiting for Jesus to return. Someone once said, patience is not the about how you wait, but how you behave while waiting. If we are to be busy about our Fathers business, we will not be idle and bored and will therefore not fall asleep as the virgins did. You see, Jesus just didnt leave us, He left us with things to take care of. “For the kingdom of heaven is like a man traveling to a far country, who called his own servants and delivered his goods to them. (Matthew 25:14 NKJV) Let us be working to develop the talents and gifts that Jesus has given us. This will help keep us busy as we wait. Developing our talents for Jesus will have a direct impact on our character development. The last parable on the sheep and goats speaks of our relationship with other human beings while waiting for Jesus. When we are working on our talents and developing our character, our love for others will increase and it will become second nature to help others. Our efforts will not even be recognisable by ourselves. When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You? (Matthew 25:38-39 NKJV) Beloved, preparing for Christs return is not urgent because of the times we live in; it is urgent because of the shortness of our own lives. Preparing for Christs return is not about seeking to get into heaven, its about the desire to be like Jesus and to be with Him. Revived By His Word
