MAUI SURF Aug 23rd: Not much more than choppy, sloppy and tiny - TopicsExpress

MAUI SURF Aug 23rd: Not much more than choppy, sloppy and tiny windswell should be expected today but a slight increase to waist high levels is possible over the weekend. A tiny southeast swell is passing through the islands but isn’t offering much surf along our summer shores. There is a slightly better chance for a small south swell arriving Monday, but let’s not set our hopes very high. This energy was sent our way as a low near the Antarctic ice shelf loosely aimed a gale toward French Polynesia. The extreme distance and relatively unimpressive wind speeds will only offer a tiny to small swell when and if it reaches our shores late Monday into Tuesday. Not much else is expected out of the South Pacific aside from weak south-southwesterly background swell, but the long-range models continue to hint toward a decent swell developing in our favored swell window around the end of the month.
