MAYOR GAFFNEYS MESSAGE - 8 JULY 2014 A wonderful result last week with the Lady Demons NWBU Semi-Final success. How awesome are those girls? Hopefully next Tuesday a huge contingent of supporters from Latrobe will attend the Grand Final in Ulverstone as the girls seek to be back to back champions. You don’t have to be a lover of basketball to attend, just a supporter of any sport. Go the Dees. ***** As Mayor, I regularly and recently attend the annual changeover dinners of the Rotary Club of Latrobe and the Lions Clubs of Latrobe and Port Sorell. It never ceases to amaze me how many volunteer hours, members of those organisations commit for the positive benefit of ours and the wider community. The outstanding work is testimony to the generosity of spirit that exists within the Municipality. I would like to congratulate the members of the Service Clubs and in particular recognise and acknowledge the past Presidents and welcome the incoming Presidents and their executive committee. I trust the next twelve months will be as successful as in previous years. ***** The Rubicon Sea Scouts will be holding a car boot and garage sale as a major fund raising event on Saturday, July 19 at the Scout Hall in Kermode Street from 10am until 2pm. The Sea Scouts have been in existence for approximately 20 years and currently 45 children are engaged in various programs and your support for this organisation would be greatly appreciated. If you are interested in having a stall or donating to this worthwhile community activity, contact Jody (0419 891 346).
