MAZARRON FC 0 CF LORCA DEPORTIVA 1 Mazarron once again faced a team towards the top of the league with the visit of third placed CF Lorca Deportiva but, on this occasion, they were beaten by the only goal of the game, a hotly disputed penalty. Lorca made the early running and young goal keeper Ruben was forced to make two good saves. Firstly he made an excellent stop with his legs when a Lorca forward found himself unmarked 10 yards from goal and then he dived full length to save another shot after a long ball had caught the Mazarron defence napping. It was 25 minutes before Mazarron managed their first shot at goal when Alcaraz’s pin point pass found Chema racing clear only to see his shot turned wide by the Lorca keeper. Four minutes later, with Mazarron now beginning to dominate the game, a cracking left foot drive from Alfonso was just wide of the target. Then from a Pescao free kick the ball was half cleared to Cecilio who tried a clever overhead kick which Chema just failed to convert at the far post. It was all Mazarron at this stage and when Alfonso’s pass sent Jose Ruben racing down the left wing his cross was mistimed by Cecilio and another chance went begging. Five minutes before half time the linesman drew the referee’s attention to the Mazarron bench and one of the substitutes, Salvi, was shown a red card. Two minutes later the Lorca right back was sent off when he was shown his second yellow card following tackles on Jose Ruben. The only goal of the game came from the penalty spot just after half time. A Lorca free kick was punched clear by the Mazarron keeper Ruben but the referee astonishingly awarded a penalty with no offence obvious to the home supporters. Santana made no mistake from the spot kick sending Ruben the wrong way. Thereafter Lorca were determined to hang on to their lead, pulling all their men behind the ball and employing time wasting tactics and feigning injury at every opportunity. Mazarron did not make their one man advantage count and gave the ball away too often with many inaccurate passes. They relied too much on the runs of Jose Ruben upfront and the resolute Lorca defence managed to withstand everything that Mazarron threw at it. Team: Ruben, Randey, Juan Andreo, Alcaraz, Alfonso, Chema (Juanillo), Moha, Jose Da, Pescao, Jose Ruben, Cecilio Man of the Match: Jose Ruben.
