MBAKA: A GAP IN THE CASTLE WALL. I did not intend to write this - TopicsExpress

MBAKA: A GAP IN THE CASTLE WALL. I did not intend to write this piece, but the recent turn out of events have left me with no choice than to engage myself in this exercise. There is an adage in Igboland that has it that; agbara nyekaria nsogbu ezi ya osisi eji piaa ya (when an idol makes too much noise, it will be shown the tree from which it was carved). Over the years, many people have had to question the involvement of the clergy in politics and most others have had to argue that such involvement is allowed for it helps to checkmate the excesses of the leaders. However, this is not often the case, as could be seen in the case at hand. Most clergy are now the Otimkpus and Allelluyarers of corrupt leaders. People have also tried to ascertain why the Catholic church exacts much influence in national and state politics, and the answer is not far from the ROMAN EMPIRE saga (lets not go into that). However, what is saddening about such authority, influence and power is that some unscrupulous elements may begin to use the opportunity to start advancing their selfish agendas. In the Holy Bible, prophets and priests were the censor board of leaders whom they fearlessly and constructively criticized, corrected and prayed for (of course, the bible enjoins Christians to always pray for their leaders). Prophets Daniel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Joshua, Ruth, Moses, Nathaniel etc, were legendary in this aspect. Now my question is: why has Mbaka chosen to be different? I know there are other priests and pastors but am concentrating on Mbaka because; 1. He is a priest in the Mother church. 2. He is popular and has many believers and ardent supporters, and 3. I am a Catholic. Mbaka is a respected and highly revered preacher, an international one for that matter. He is so popular to the extent where anything he says is law and makes headlines. His popularity grew with the NNAMANI saga and since then, Mbaka has been in one controversy or the other with leaders all over Nigeria. We cannot forget in a hurry, his role in Imo state in 2011. And also in 2014 where his enemy became his friend and his friend became his enemy. Now, his recent swipe on President Jonathan and his campaign for Buhari is my worry and the reason for this piece. I dont care what people have been made to believe through Mbakas megalomaniac vituperations. What i care about is the theory propping up in some quarters that the Catholic church through Mbaka has began to fight Jonathan. Please, that cannot be true because 1. Mbaka is an individual and so cannot speak for all of us. 2.The Catholic is a respecter of hierarchy and so cannot leave the Bishops to appoint a mere reverend father to be our spokesman if we must make such declaration. To this end, i wish to posit that Mbaka is on his own and does not represent the Catholics in Nigeria. We do not associate with priests who condemn leaders that does not give them money as could be seen in his silence in Enugu because CHIME paid him. As long as i am concerned, Mbaka is a gap in the castle wall.
