MBAM Wants Solution To Limited Supply Of Foreign Workers KUALA LUMPUR : The issue of limited supply of foreign workers needs to be addressed promptly for the construction sector to remain robust and maintain a positive 11.2 per cent growth this year. Master Builders Association of Malaysia (MBAM) President, Matthew Tee, said there was an urgent need to remove the glitch on the labour supply side, particularly of foreign workers. "As it takes about eight months to bring in a foreign worker from the time the letter of award is issued, the glitch will lead to late delivery and this is an unhealthy trend (for the industry)," he told a media briefing here today. He said Malaysian construction industry has problems sourcing for labour as well as maintaining skilled personnel and these have led to the dependency on foreign workers. "This dependency exists because of the demand for skilled workers due to the rapid development in Malaysia. It is also exacerbated by poor participation from our local manpower resources," he said.
