MC Promises Day 14** Today’s Theme: Persistence will be rewarded Scripture Luke 11:9-10 And I tell you, ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Reflection When I read these verses, I hear God telling me to keep asking for what I need. We all know Jesus isn’t saying we will literally be given everything we ask for. We also all know God doesn’t always meet our needs in the way we necessarily expect. When we need something, we must keep asking, be persistent, ask in a simple and direct manner, and most importantly, never give up! Prayer Dear God, Please listen to my prayers, and grant me what You know I need. Keep me focused on the right things. Grant me strength of spirit to keep on asking! Amen. Today’s Author: Sarah Roemig **Digging Deeper If you would like to Dig Deeper into todays devotion, please continue reading below. This may seem something of a trivial example, but I think it exemplifies God’s exhortation to us to be persistent in prayer. At the end of April last spring, my 9-year old daughter, Grace, FINALLY decided to clean out her backpack (Id been suggesting she do this for weeks!!). It was quite amazing. Lets see...3 rolls of tape, 2 full size tubes of toothpaste, about 25 erasers of varying sizes, about 50 broken crayons, various markers with and without caps, 2 tennis balls, TWO house keys (well, now I knew what happened to the missing one), EIGHT teaspoons (I noticed I was low on teaspoons and had accused my son of putting them away in the wrong place, and my husband of leaving them at work!), about 100 pieces of miscellaneous junk, about $1 in change, a scarf, some mittens, a pair of socks, last years bus pass (which still apparently could not be thrown away), and the best of all, drum roll please...WADDLES. Waddles is the missing stuffed penguin Grace had been searching for, worrying about, and PRAYING about, since mid-February. Grace proceeded to announce that cleaning out her backpack was Gods way of answering her prayer. For a 9-year-old to keep praying for something for more than 2 months, it showed a lot of persistence. Though it seems somehow unlikely that God would bother to answer a prayer about a missing stuffed animal for a girl, who has an abundance (and I do mean abundance) of other stuffed animals, it might be that God was teaching her, and maybe me as well, about the importance of persistence in prayer. Ask and it will be given. If not right away, keep on asking.
