The MCAs were debating a report on appointment of a county officer in July when Karura Ward rep Kamau Thuo said: “Integrity is like virginity, if you lose it, you can’t get it back.” Unamused female MCAs confronted him demanding withdrawal of the word. They claimed the word ‘virginity’ slighted them. Thuo however maintained he only used a common phrase. Nominated MCA Zulfa Hakim told The Nairobian words like virginity are gender-sensitive and send different signals. The majority leader Elias Otieno however said: “I want to support Thuo. When virginity is gone, it is gone.”
