MEA General Body Meeting & Financial Planning Session on Dec 6th: MEA held a Financial Planning Session followed by MEA General Body Meeting (GBM) on Saturday, December 6th at India House in Houston, TX. The event started with the financial planning session with three experienced speakers: • Matt Ritcher, a financial advisor with JP Morgan Chase, • Danny Allizadeh with Merrill Lynch, and • Mani P Alapat, CPA covered details of latest IRS requirements related to Foreign Bank Account reporting and Will and Estate Planning. The presentation were well received and generated several questions from the audience. We thank all the three speakers. A productive GBM was held after the financial planning session. Thirty (30) paid members attended this session. Joyce John, MEA President gave an annual update presentation citing 2014 as Year of Rapid Growth and 2015 as the Year of consolidation for MEA Houston. GBM approved the proposal: • Expanded Board of Directors (10 members, instead of 7) • Formation of new task focused work groups for i. Scholarship Program, ii. Procedures, Documentation, Compliance (PDC), iii. Development, and iv. Student Member Co-ordination. • GBM also approved ad-hoc implementation (pending bylaw amendments) of the following changes: i. Eliminate CPA requirement from the structure of board of Trustees ii. Expand types of memberships to include spouse membership at 50 % discount and formalize student membership @ $ 10 / annual We are very pleased to announce the selection of a fantastic new team for the 2015 MEA Board.
