MEANWHILE AT SHANNON WARPORT TODAY.... Edward Horgan reports: see attached photos of two U.S. warplanes at Shannon at 1.15 pm today 29 October 2014. One is a Hercules refuelling tanker number 2311, belonging to the U.S. Marine Corps refuelling Squadron based in Fort Worth Texas. The other is a U.S. Navy C-40A that can be used for transporting Cargo or troops. John, I suggest that we make a list of all the US refuelling tankers that we know were at Shannon in recent months and word a Dail question along the lines of: To Minister for Foreign Affairs Is the minister aware if the presence of these refuelling tankers at Shannon has been connected to the mid-air refuelling of any US military aircraft in Irish airspace, and is he aware of the existence of over-flights by US military aircraft close to the times that these refuelling tankers took off or landed at Shannon airport and if so does this not indicate that some or all of these aircraft were involved in military operations while there were on Irish territory or in Irish airspace. How does this relate to US assurances that these aircraft are not on military operations, not armed, etc. Question to Minister for Defence What steps are the Irish Defence Forces, and in particular the Irish Air Corps taking to monitor US military aircraft while on Irish territory and in Irish air space to ensure that they comply with Irish neutrality regulations.
