MECHANICAL DROP SETS: Heres a video I filmed in Lanzarote of me doing what is known as a mechical drop set that I stole from Ben Pakulski. For those who dont know what a conventional drop set is its simply where you contine an exercise past failure by lowering the weight. For example bench press might be: 100kg 8 reps (failure) 80kg 8 reps (failure) 60kg 6-8 reps (failure) (with no rest between sets) This allows us to increase the time under tension (TUT) placed on the muscle while allowing us to continue to hit more and more muscle fibres. Now with a mechanical drop set we simply extend the set by changing the positioning of the body. For the tricep the muscle is weakest when the arm is pulled behind as in the first set on the video but is strongest when the elbow is above the head like how I finish the video. In basic terms you just start the exercise where you are weakest because your muscle isnt fatigued and end the set where you strongest once you are tired. Its also worth noting that the change in arm angle also affects the cables position further varying the resistence you feel. You can see in the video that I can hit failure in one position but can still add a few more reps without lowering the weight in other positions. Ive been using this a while now and love it. Havent seen many other people trying them though. Give this a try and see how you find it! Should get you pumped!
