MEDIA ALERT/INVITATION City hosts media briefing on its World Design Capital 2014 initiatives With less than four months to go before Cape Town lifts the curtain on World Design Capital 2014, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Marketing, Councillor Grant Pascoe, will host a briefing to update the media on the City’s initiatives. This will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Date: Friday 13 September 2013 Time: 11:15 Venue: Ray Alexander Boardroom, 6th Floor, Podium Block, Civic Centre All media are welcome to attend. World Design Capital is an initiative of the Montreal-based International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID) which aims to promote and encourage the use of design to further the social, economic and cultural development of cities. It is awarded every two years. Attracting and promoting innovative design, WDC2014 provides an opportunity for Cape Town and Capetonians to showcase accomplishments, increase awareness and accessibility of design, and highlight successes in urban revitalisation strategies. The payoff line for WDC2014 is “Live design. Transform life” and that is a message the City is deeply engaging in through the World Design Capital programme. Design for the public sector, as manifest in past, present and future City-driven projects, is taking centre-stage; and the City has set out to touch every one of Cape Town’s 111 wards with design.
